Just bought this sink 2 month old and I have rust spots. Soooooo unhappy for amount of money charged.
Hello. I am sorry to hear you are having issues with this sink. I suggest you contact the merchant you bought the sink from. Most companies have excellent product support provided the item hasn't been abused.
In the meantime, We've analyzed rust complaints and found that over 90% of rust in sinks comes from external sources. Here's what you need to know:
New Construction:
If rust appears within days of installing a new sink, it's often due to rust particles from the construction site. These particles can gather in the corners and edges causing spots. Dust from heavy rust particles that isn't cleaned off promptly can create spots all over the surface. To prevent this, make sure the sink is properly covered during renovations to stop metal particles from falling in.
Rust after months of use:
Rust that appears after months of use is usually caused by rust contaminants from cast iron pots and pans or iron in well water. This can lead to rust in corners and edges, general rust pots on the surface or rust stains shaped like the pans sitting at the bottom of the sink.
Cleaning and Maintenance:
For both scenarios, you can effectively remove rust stains by scrubbing with Barkeeper's Friend and a Maroon Pad. Be sure to scrub gently in the direction of the grain to avoid further damage. Rust or stains caused by damage to the stainless steel itself are rare and typically result from exposure to harsh cleaning chemicals. In such cases, thorough rinsing and scrubbing with Barikeeper's Friend and a Maroon Pad will help remove the outer damaged layer.
Pitting:
In the rare event of pitting, which can occur if rust particles and stains are left on the sink for too long, it is mainly cosmetic and may not be completely removeable. However, regular care can prevent further dore eterioration.
Finally, you can reach out to Franke or the store where you bought your sink for more information.
We hope this helps. Kindly let us know if you have any further questions.
